Women in Leadership - Rising by Lifting Others
Purpose
The purpose of this conference is to provide a platform for student leaders with different experiences and backgrounds to share insights on how gender and leadership are closely interlinked. Hence, it is important to include both male and female student leaders. In order to accommodate this and ensure that the theme is something that all student leaders can engage meaningfully on, we have crafted the theme to be something that applies to both female and male student leaders.
This theme is in line with current world trends, where we have seen a shift in landscape, from how most women used to have men as their employers in the past, to the present, where women work alongside men in various industries in order to achieve their goals. For instance, Angela Merkel, a politician serving as the Chancellor of Germany since 2005, can be seen at the G-7 conferences alongside male leaders from other countries such as Japan and the United States, participating in discussions and working alongside one another to come to mutually beneficial agreements.
Therefore, our conference hopes to emphasise this and highlight that the rise of women in leadership has not been an easy feat. As women assume more places in leadership, it is important to acknowledge and adapt how both genders need to embrace differences in leadership styles and work together. In doing so, we believe that student leaders can engage in meaningful discussions through sharing their different perspectives on the topic. At the end of this, we hope they can take their insights back to their own school culture and apply them to future situations, be it at school or in the workplace.
